Tonight's episode of PBS' Wired Science will skim the surface of the use of technology and science in the vineyard/winery (see "The Grapes of Math" preview below). It should be an interesting program.
What do you think?

This video horrified me. Its enevitable that science and technology will be used to help iron out some of the problems of making wine, but this is taking it too far. There is so much written about the big labels trying to establish the equivalent of "Coco Cola" in wine so that each "cru" and each year is exactly the same as others. This is why small producers and Garagiste wines are so popular (if you can source them). You cannot age wine artificialy. All you can do is try to imitate the aging process purely for reasons of profit. And why do you want to mimic Burgundy in the U.S. You are blessed with your own unique Terroir, be proud of it and put that in the bottle. I sincerely hope these techniques have little effect on the wine industry as a whole
